Monsanto – a Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing?

Monsanto, in my opinion, is a run-amok corporation many of whose past executives end up in the Food and Drug Administration where they allow blatant profiteering by their former colleagues at Monsanto. (Things like extortion of non-complying farmers and countries and even accusations of international biopiracy, etc).

This has resulted in not having to label GMO containing foods on your local grocery store shelves for over a decade now. Americans have unwittingly been subjecting themselves to the largest biological experiment in the history of mankind. And it gets worse…

Whats so dangerous about declaring war on nature?

Deptford

Plenty of danger – like deformities in the intestinal villi of animals who are fed GMO food (Imagine what it’s doing to the long-term health of you, your children and the next generations).  But much worse – now Monsanto is declaring war on nature in the name of profit by wanting to legalize suicide seeds manufactured by genetic “terminator technology.” Do you know what happens when sterile seeds begin to cross-pollinate with healthy crops? It could wipe out the world’s food supply – and only Monsanto will have sterile seeds for sale – the world could depend on them for its survival.

Judge For Yourself:

As stated in The Ecologist:

“The issue of granting intellectual property rights (IPRs) to life forms—such as seeds, plants, or animals—is a contentious one worldwide. Critics say it’s impossible to define when the creation of such a thing took place, and that granting patent rights for a crop such as brinjal negates generations of farmers who, using conventional plant breeding techniques, have managed to develop successful cultivars.”

Monsanto has long been trying to establish control over the seeds of the plants that produce food for the world, with little regard for farmers’ rights or even basic levels of morality. They have already patented a number of genetically altered food crops, which can only be grown with proper license and the seeds for which farmers must purchase anew each year or face legal prosecution. They have even developed terminator technology—which they hope to deploy soon.

Terminator technology is a form of warfare on nature – they are genetically modified seeds, programmed in Monsanto’s laboratories, to “self-destruct.” In other words, the seeds (and the forthcoming crops) are sterile, which means farmers must buy them again each year.

The implications that terminator seeds could have on the world’s food supply are disastrous: The traits from genetically engineered crops can get passed on to other crops. Once the terminator seeds are released into a region, the trait of seed sterility could be passed on to other non-genetically engineered crops, making most or all of the seeds in the region sterile. If allowed to continue, every farmer in the world could come to rely on Monsanto for their seed supply!

So what are YOU going to do about it?

Unless we ALL start caring, something really really bad will happen due to American corporate greed and utter ignorance of nature and its intricate designs of natural selection and procreation.
